The company’s multi-industry know-how and the team’s expertise has enabled it to lead and participate in highly innovative collaborative research and engineering projects within the UK, Europe and across the world, in a wide array of subjects such as knowledge graphs, digitalisation and digital engineering, machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, data marketplaces, decarbonisation, net-zero, semantic platforms, smart infrastructure, carbon-abatement, climate resilience, industry 4.0 & 5.0, chemical processes, materials 4.0, emissions reduction, and energy sustainability.

DOME 4.0
The Digital Open Marketplace Ecosystem (DOME) 4.0 offers an industrial data marketplace ecosystem based on Open Science and Open Innovation principles to enable business-to-business (B2B) data sharing as well as expedite the creation of new or enhanced products, processes, and services. With the help of ontology-based semantic data interoperability and modern data processing technologies, DOME 4.0 intends to offer an intelligent industrial data ecosystem for knowledge creation across the entire materials to manufacturing value chains. CMCL is the coordinator of this pan-European effort. Read more about DOME 4.0 here.

OpenModel
The OpenModel project aims at developing an integrated open Innovation Platform (OIP) to deliver predictable, validated, and traceable simulation workflows which can seamlessly integrate models and databases. It thus attempts to bridge the gap between an industrial challenge and a well-informed business decision via provision of actionable results. CMCL is an SME partner in this project. Read more about OpenModel here.

OntoTrans
OntoTrans provides an ontology-based Open Translation Environment (OTE) to address the standardisation required in “industrial translation” process, i.e., the process of “translating” the industrial challenges into modelling workflows. It tends to use an Artificial Intelligence (AI) approach to represent the manufacturing processes in a standard ontological form and connect them with relevant sources and solutions in materials modelling, thus enabling optimal materials and process design. CMCL is an SME partner in the OntoTrans. Read more about the project here.

SimDOME
SimDOME project focuses on developing an Open Simulation Platform (OSP) for materials modelling interoperability based on EU/EMMC standards on materials modelling. It leverages the latest developments in Elementary Multiperspective Material Ontology (EMMO) to enable interoperability via standardisation of multiple material use-cases. CMCL is an SME partner in the project. Read more about SimDOME here.

ASCENT
CMCL partnered with a leading UK industry and academia consortium to perform key research into CO2 reduction and the increase of power density for off-highway (non-road) machines. High-fidelity physics-based models were combined with advanced statistical and Machine Learning (ML) methods to improve the estimation of regulated emissions over the whole IC engine operating window and to augment the measurements with model-populated data. The project received funding from APC UK. Read more here.
