Reliable fuel models are important for the robustness of chemically reactive flow modelling. To develop confidence in the application of these kinetic mechanisms, our engineers carry out a systematic analysis of the fuel models at a number of scientific levels – from quantum calculations to validations against fundamental measurements (e.g. flame speed, ignition delay etc.), research applications and finally practical systems.

| “The implementation of detailed chemical kinetics is critical in expanding the predictive capabilities of reactive flow modelling” |
| |
In these systems, software such as the srm suite yields significant benefits due to reduced computational times. It is this level of robustness combined with tractable computational expense that is critical when employing a mechanism in predictive mode.
In addition, there is an increasing requirement for systematic reduction of detailed mechanisms for computationally expensive applications such as CFD. As such, it is important to retain many of the key components of the detailed chemical model but to reduce the number of species from thousands to tens. These reductions can be carried out by our engineers and employed with care to develop a robust reduced mechanism for specific applications.
