Alt-blend
cmcl innovations is co-sponsoring an Industrial CASE PhD studentship at the Computational Modelling (CoMo) Group, Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Cambridge. The research project, “Alt-blend – Alternative fuel based blending strategies for advanced clean Diesel engines”, has been offered one of the two ICASE awards from the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) for 2009. The EEDA is the driving force behind sustainable economic growth and regeneration in the East of England. Prof. Kraft from the CoMo group said, “We are pleased to accept this prestigious EEDA award which helps us advance our computational research methodologies to solve today’s practical engineering challenges faced by the industry. Dr. Amit Bhave, Chief Executive Officer of cmcl innovations explains, “From practical environmental perspective, alternative fuel blends in advanced clean Diesel engine technologies show promising emissions-reduction potential. As a result of the Alt-blend project, we aim to offer our customers a better understanding of the impact of futuristic fuel-blends on engine performance and emissions, using sophisticated modelling techniques”.

LiLa - Library of Labs

“LiLa” is the acronym for the “Library of Labs”, an initiative of eight universities and three enterprises including cmcl innovations, for the mutual exchange of and access to virtual laboratories (simulation environments) and remote experiments (real laboratories which are remotely controlled via the internet).

The primary target groups for LiLa are university teachers and their undergraduate and graduate students in engineering and the natural sciences.

The LiLa portal will provide:

  • access to remote experiments and virtual labs, such as cmcl innovations' srm websuite
  • a scheduling/booking system
  • connections to library resources
  • a tutoring system
  • a 3D-environment for online collaboration

The LiLa community provides:

  • an organisational framework for access to and exchange of experiments between institutions
  • contract templates to facilitate these arrangements
  • didactical support for lecturers integrating remote and virtual labs into curricula

As part of its involvement in the project, cmcl innovations is providing access to the srm websuite for the LiLa community.

The srm websuite provides:

  • a platform for virtual laboratories that focuses on combustion in engines
  • insight into state-of-the-art combustion processes and futuristic fuels
  • dymanic and relevant virtual laboratories for educational purposes
  • an authentic laboratory experience, harnessing cmcl's innovative simulation tools
  • a web-interface for running simulations on cmcl's simulation servers, accessible from many devices including mobile phones
  • engaging and up-to-date user experiences through Web 2.0 "Mash-ups" of supporting materials
  • supporting materials including video clips, animations, articles, and assessment exercises
  • training for either the institutional or corporate setting
  • support for experience levels from high school students to graduate students to experienced R&D engineers

cmcl innovations also provides custom-built srm websuite laboratories to meet your specific educational needs. If you are interested in the relevant and dynamic learning experience the srm websuite can offer, please contact us for more information.
